Need Help with Custom Pegboard Design for My Tools

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on constructing a custom pegboard for my tools. I found someone who can CNC a pegboard for me, but I'm uncertain about the materials and reinforcement needed. I'm planning on using it for medium to lightweight tools like chisels, rasps, pull saws, and maybe even my #4 and #5 planes if possible. Here's what I'm considering:
- Size: 1100x1100mm
- Hole specs: 5mm holes, with 25mm center to center spacing (euro standard)
- Layout: 42x42, leaving a 25mm border without holes
- Mounting: 6 bolts with large washers on the sides
- Material: Birch plywood with an epoxy liner
- Thickness: Unsure whether to use 6mm or 9mm boards, since I'm planning to make DIY toolholders but want to use standard hooks too. Most ready-made pegboards are about 6mm, so I assume that's the standard? Low profile is key for me, so I'm hoping that a reinforced 6mm will hold up.

Am I missing anything obvious in my plan? I'd love some insights, especially from experienced users! (And I'm not looking to use slats or French cleats right now)

Honestly, I think pegboard might not be the best approach. Have you thought about just mounting a plain sheet of plywood? As a beginner, pegboards are nice because they're adjustable, but they can limit you later on. French cleats provide more flexibility for rearranging tools, but I get why you might steer clear of them initially. Just a thought!

True, but I need something that lets me change my setup easily as I grow. The last thing I want is to deal with making custom holders for every little change!

That sounds like a solid plan! Just so you know, standard pegboards are usually about 3/16" thick (which is around 4.8mm), and they hold a decent amount of weight if you mount them properly on studs or with standoffs. For light tools like hammers and planes, a 6mm plywood pegboard should work fine as long as you distribute the weight evenly. Given your design, I think you might be overthinking the thickness a bit. Just remember, pegboards can be very forgiving when it comes to weight distribution!

I get that, but in my area, CNC options are actually the easiest way to get what I need. The raw sheets aren't available at a reasonable price or size.
