I'm looking to replace a worn-out fence that borders six different properties, including a corner house that isn't really adjacent to mine and some neighbors I haven't even met yet. I'm unsure how to approach this situation. Is there a contractor out there who would help divide the fence into sections and provide individual bids for each neighbor? I really don't want to upset anyone but I know it's time to take action since the fence has survived two hurricanes and some major storms, and it's now leaning with several boards missing. Should I start by talking to my neighbors to see if they're interested in sharing the cost? I'm also constrained by my HOA's strict rules on what materials we can use for the fence.

When I put in a fence, I didn’t expect my neighbor to pitch in since it was my choice. I just gave him a heads-up that I was getting it done. It would have been nice if he offered to help, but I didn't ask him to. You might find the same with your neighbors, especially if they don't feel directly impacted by the fence's condition.
