I'm trying to grow potatoes in a space that's about 1x4x1, similar to what I've seen in some gardening videos. The problem is, my soil is super sandy and really nutrient-poor. The only fertilizer I have access to is Miracle-Gro, which I worry might just wash away without providing any lasting nutrients. I've got some clay soil too, but I need something that drains well yet is still fertile for the potatoes. What's the best fertilizer for sandy soil, or how can I improve its quality? Also, should I be worried about the pooling water when I water the plants? Any advice would be appreciated!

If the water is pooling on top of your sandy soil, it might not be a huge issue for fertilization directly, but do keep an eye on drainage. You might want to mix in some compost or organic matter to improve it overall. Also, make sure you’re giving them enough drainage so they don't drown!
I've found that potatoes can be pretty easy to manage. Even if you encounter some leaf diseases, pruning the affected parts usually works well, and the plants often bounce back. Just stay on top of the fertilizer balance and they should do just fine!
