I'm looking to upgrade my chisel collection since the ones I had for years got damaged during a move. They were pretty cheap and didn't hold an edge well. Now that I have a workshop and I'm building my first workbench, I want to invest in a decent set of chisels. With my birthday coming up, my family is chipping in about £120-150, so I want to get a solid set of chisels available in the UK. I'm planning to do various projects, from large-scale ones like doors to finer work such as cabinets and cupboards. I'm particularly interested in replacing my kitchen cupboard doors and adding a nice glass door to a corner cupboard for liquor storage. I've got some woodworking experience, including traditional timber framing, but I'm out of touch with finer detailing. How many chisels should I get, what brands do you recommend, and do you think I should focus on a variety or just a few quality tools? Also, how many mortise chisels would be sufficient for my projects? I'll be using a mallet with them for tasks like knocking out tenons. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've got a set of Two Cherries and Narex Richter chisels, and I'm really pleased with both. My dad even sent over his old blue plastic handle Marples set that he found at a secondhand market, and to my surprise, they work really well! They're comfortable, sharp, and hold an edge nicely. Definitely worth checking out!
I've been thinking about which sizes to get. Any thoughts on that?
