I'm new to gardening and have a pretty solid grasp of math, but I'm feeling a bit silly for asking this. I'm looking for an organic liquid fertilizer that has a 2-4-2 NPK ratio, but all I can find is a 1-2-1. If I double the amount of fertilizer to water, will that give me the 2-4-2 ratio I'm after, or is it more complicated than that?

Just keep it simple—stick to the packaging instructions for best results! But doubling the strength or frequency should get you to your desired NPK.
It's actually just about the ratios of the nutrients! So yes, your idea to double the concentration is correct. Just be mindful not to overdo it, follow the instructions, and it should work out fine.
You're on the right track! If you mix the 1-2-1 fertilizer at twice the recommended concentration, you'll end up getting the equivalent of a 2-4-2 ratio. Alternatively, you could just use it at the normal strength but apply it twice as often, and that would work just the same.
