What Easy Veggies Should I Grow in My First Garden?

Hey everyone! I'm super excited because I'm getting a lawn/patio for the first time ever! It's a pretty decent size—12 ft x 9 ft concrete patio. I want to make sure there's enough space for a table and chairs, so I'm thinking of using planters along the edges. I'm planning to start with four types of veggies (plus a small herb garden). I definitely want to grow tomatoes and cucumbers, but I need two more suggestions. I live in Utah, where the warm weather lasts about 5-6 months. Oh, and a grape vine above the patio would be amazing!

Definitely consider radishes and kale as well. They don’t take much space and grow quickly! Plus, you can mix them with your tomatoes since basil makes a great companion plant too.

Awesome, I’ll plant those together!

Yeah, just a heads up, carrots can be tricky to get right for first timers, but they’re worth it!

A good rule of thumb is to grow what you love to eat! Consider planting peppers, green beans, or lettuce. They’re all pretty easy to manage in planters.

Totally agree! I eat tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans every week. Do you think those would do well in long rectangular planters?

Yes! Those are perfect for planters and grow really well. You’ll enjoy home-grown veggies!

If you have the space, zucchini is another great option. It’s super productive and you can also try carrots and eggplant.

Oh, I love zucchini! And I have a weird obsession with pickled okra, so I think I’ll add that to my list too!
