I just got a Dremel and I'm looking to carve a recessed circle in some pine wood. I realize that a router would be faster and easier for this task, but I'm a beginner and not quite ready to tackle that yet. Are there any Dremel attachments or techniques that could help me achieve this?

If you're trying to carve a recessed circle, you might want to consider using a Forstner bit with a drill instead. It could give you a cleaner cut and save time compared to a Dremel. Just make sure it fits well for the depth you're aiming for!

I was thinking of using the circle and straight edge attachment to make a shallow cut first. Then I'd hollow out and sand the rest. Does that sound like a solid plan?
