I recently bought a house with recessed lighting that can change color, but I need to pop them out to make adjustments. While trying to do this, I noticed that some of the fixtures were either painted or caulked around the edges where they connect to the drywall. This caused some ugly paint chipping when I tried to remove them. What's the best way to fix this issue and avoid damaging the ceiling further while removing the rest?

A good tip is to use a utility knife to carefully cut around the edges before attempting to remove the lights. This should help minimize any peeling or chipping. If you do end up with some paint damage, you can usually just repaint that area unless it's super noticeable.
