I've been struggling with popping noises in my carpeted stairs. I've tried everything! I recently put 150 screws into the three stairs that are making the noise but it's still there. I've screwed into the risers, from the front, on the sides, and at an angle—and nothing seems to work! I can't really lift the carpet because there are so many screws already in place. I can't access the area under the stairs because it's drywalled. Any suggestions on what to do next?

If your steps are really secure but still popping, you might want to check if the noise is from the stringers behind the drywall. Sometimes, screws alone don’t fix the issue if it’s a structural problem. If you can, see if you can access those areas without too much hassle. If you have any loose boards or gaps in the support, that could be the culprit!
Sounds like you’ve done a lot of the right things already! Since you can’t access under the stairs due to drywalls, you could try cutting the carpet at the back of each step and applying some adhesive there. Just be careful to figure out the exact spots where the noise is coming from; it might be more about the middle part or where the nose meets the riser. Good luck!
