I've been using Dewalt tools for ages thanks to my dad's handyman background, and I always appreciated the way their torque limiters would cut out immediately when I hit the set torque. Recently, I switched to a Milwaukee M12 Fuel drill (not the Surge), after hearing great things about Milwaukee's performance, but I'm honestly not loving it. The torque limiter feels all sorts of wrong. Instead of just stopping when reaching the torque spec, there's this weird tugging sensation that makes it feel like it's losing power gradually, which leads to stripped screws if I'm not pressing down hard enough. Is this how all Milwaukee drills feel? Am I missing something? Does the M18 line behave the same, or do other brands like Ryobi or Makita offer a smoother experience? I'd really like to settle into just one brand, but if Milwaukee doesn't cut it, am I stuck trying to piece together my tool collection?

Have you considered Makita? They won’t pack the same power as Milwaukee, but they offer a really smooth performance when it comes to torque delivery. If you're focused on getting the highest quality from each tool, you might need to mix and match between brands, which can definitely lead to a more eclectic collection in your garage!
If you want something that behaves similarly to Dewalt, you might want to check out FLEX or Ryobi tools. They tend to have a more responsive torque delivery without that weird delay you’re experiencing with the Milwaukee.
It sounds like you might have gotten an M12 drill that features an electronic clutch for torque control. From what I’ve seen, some older models of Milwaukee and Dewalt drills had similar issues, where the user felt this awkward torque delivery. The newer versions have switched back to mechanical clutches, which perform much better when it comes to torque sensitivity. It might be worth checking if your model has this feature!
