I have a frost-free spigot that recently busted because I stupidly left my hose connected during the winter. I don't live in an area with extreme temperatures, so I'm wondering if I should just replace it with another frost-free spigot or go for a standard PEX spigot instead. I've heard varying opinions on how PEX handles cold weather, so it's hard to know what's best. Any real-world experience on this?

I'd replace it with another frost-free spigot, but definitely remember to disconnect the hose. If you go with a regular PEX spigot, just keep in mind that its metal valve body can burst too, unlike PEX, though it’s better equipped for cold weather. Just be careful to use it properly this time!
It sounds like the segment between the valve and outside froze and burst, especially since the hose was still attached. Frost-free spigots only drain properly when the hose is disconnected, so that's something to keep in mind if you replace it. You could go with another frost-free, but just make sure to always disconnect the hose after use!
