What Are the Best Lighting Fixture Options for My Bathroom?

Asked By u9Ff8hL4 On

I'm remodeling my bathroom and looking to update the lighting. I'm particularly interested in recessed lighting options like can lights and canless fixtures. However, I'm getting a bit confused because I've come across terms like color temperature and dimming limits which seem to be tied to the cans themselves. I thought the can was just a housing for the bulb, so I'm unclear about their role. I'm hoping to make the best choice possible, so I'm looking for some guidance on where to learn more about different lighting options. Also, are there any manufacturers that are highly recommended for these products? Thanks!

Lighting can definitely feel overwhelming! Websites like Houzz and home decor magazines can be great resources for inspiration and info. Philips and GE are solid brands for reliable fixtures, but honestly, it comes down to personal preference. Your goal is to avoid lighting that makes you look like a zombie in the morning! Good luck with your bathroom remodel! ?

I thought Philips only did bulbs, not housings...?

You're correct that the can is just the housing, and you can choose any bulb you like based on your needs. If you're starting from scratch, I suggest going for cans and picking your favorite bulbs separately. Just keep in mind that color temperature and brightness are personal choices. Also, if you're insulating the ceiling, make sure you grab insulation-rated fixtures. The Commercial Electric cans from Home Depot are pretty good, in my experience.

So if I get a fancy Philips Hue bulb, I can use a basic housing from Home Depot and it’ll work just fine with the same dimmer?
