I'm trying to help my sister locate the breaker box in her prewar condo, but she's been unable to find it, and it's driving me a bit crazy! The layout of the buildings has some consistency, and other residents have their breaker boxes in just a couple of spots. I did some exploring, including drilling a few holes and using a scope camera, but no luck. She's losing patience with me wanting to keep drilling. Any advice on how to find her breaker box? Where should we start looking, or should we just call in an electrician?

If no luck in the other places, you might want to touch base with your HOA for access to the building's original plans. They might have more insights on where the breaker boxes are located, even if they weren't able to help at first.
Could it be behind the fridge? That’s a common hiding place in older units and might be worth a check.

I’d suggest starting where the power enters the building. Typically, the breaker box is nearby. It’s not likely to be behind a wall; if it is, you might want to use some strong magnets to locate it. Just keep in mind, if the walls are plaster and lath, that could complicate things for magnet or stud finder usage. Since the power comes in through the kitchen wall, check around there, even behind cabinets! But be careful, if it was moved or walled over, it might be hiding elsewhere.
You're right about the kitchen! It’s a good spot to start, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of it being in a neighboring unit, especially since some of the condos have been converted to rentals. It could definitely be controlled by a landlord from there.
I asked my dad to check with them, and unfortunately, they’re just as clueless. It's almost like the box vanished!
