Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a strange situation and could really use some advice. I live in Central Florida in a below-grade house that unfortunately floods pretty often. I'm trying to find a solution to prevent further flooding, but I've had no luck with contractors. Every time I have someone come out to give me a quote, they seem to ghost me right after. The first contractor I called had a great conversation with me but never sent the quote. I tried reaching out multiple times and couldn't get through, only to find out the owner of the company claimed the contractor didn't want to take on my project. I thought that was it, but then I tried another company with a guy who seemed really helpful and promised to get me some quotes. After I sent him some dimensions for drywall, I found out I'd been blocked by them too! I'm being clear and straightforward with everyone, so I'm puzzled as to why this keeps happening. Any insights or advice?

It could be that the work needed is more than they’re comfortable with. Some contractors avoid projects that require a lot of ongoing support or warranties. If they have a full schedule, they might not want to take on something they’re unsure they can handle properly.
It sounds like some contractors might be nervous about taking on your project because of the potential for future issues, especially if the flooding gets worse with climate change. They might be worried about liability or just don’t want the headache of a difficult project. Honestly, it’s good that you plan to sell the house soon—maybe just disclose what you know to the new owners to avoid legal trouble later on.
Your situation might be a bit dicey for them. Some contractors check court records to make sure clients are reliable before bidding on bigger jobs. Even if you've never been in trouble, they might be playing it safe if they see something that raises a red flag.
