I just got my hands on a Sargent Autoset plane and I'm trying to figure out how to use it and what benefits it might have over traditional Bailey-style planes. From what I've heard, these planes didn't really catch on, so I'm curious if there's any real advantage to them. Any insights would be appreciated!

I had one of these and tried using it, but honestly, it was pretty finicky. I ended up selling it not long after because it felt like a solution looking for a problem. They might sound interesting, but in my experience, they just caused more hassle than they're worth. Collectors do seem to like them, though—mostly those looking for budget-friendly planes! Give it a try, you might enjoy it after all.

Any tips for getting it to work smoothly?
