My garbage disposal recently broke and I'm considering my options. I'm thinking about hiring a plumber to replace it since it keeps clogging. However, I've hardly ever used it. Would it actually be more cost-effective to have a plumber convert it into a regular drain instead of replacing the disposal?

It’s definitely cheaper to convert it to a regular drain if you go that route, but make sure to hire a plumber for the adjustment to ensure it’s done right. If you have an InSinkErator model, changing it out can be pretty easy. I've managed to replace them in two different homes without breaking a sweat!

If you have a dishwasher, I strongly suggest keeping the disposal! I only removed mine a couple of months ago. It was a super simple job—just popped off the old one and installed the new with minimal fuss. Took about 30 minutes in total, and I didn't bother changing the sink flange.
