What Are the Best Value Upgrades Under $5,000 for My First Property?

I'm in the process of buying my first property and I'm trying to figure out some smart, cost-effective upgrades that I can do for under $5,000. I've already got some ideas like installing reverse-cycle air conditioning, giving the place a fresh paint job, and maybe putting in solar panels. I'm also considering more unique upgrades such as cellular blinds, a second-hand kitchen from a marketplace, or even going fully electric. I'm curious to hear what upgrades others have made for under $5,000 that really made a noticeable difference!

One upgrade that worked wonders for me was installing a whole house fan for about $1,500. I use it way more frequently than my air conditioning, and it keeps the house comfortably cool during those hot summer days! It's definitely more economical than traditional AC—you might want to consider it depending on your climate.

That sounds great! How much did your house heat up before the fan? And how cool does it feel now without AC? I was quoted $22k for AC, but a whole house fan sounds like a smarter option since it only gets super hot for a few weeks here.
