I've been dealing with a frustrating leak underneath my bathroom that drips into the garage. The plumber has come by four times already but hasn't been able to replicate the issue, as it's not happening frequently or in large amounts. He opened the panel behind the shower, drilled a hole downstairs, and even recaulked around the toilet and tub. I suggested checking the putty seal on the drain, but it hasn't been looked at yet. There's water that comes out of the overflow drain, but I'm not so sure that's the culprit. I've noticed that even when I don't use the shower for a while, the floor in the area remains slightly damp. As a renter, how much should I worry about this?

If the area stays damp even when you haven’t used the bathroom for a while, that’s definitely worth investigating further. It could be a sign of a leak somewhere in the plumbing, especially if the shower and toilet have been resealed. You might want to keep an eye on it and note if it changes after you don’t use the bathroom for a day or two.
I’ve experienced condensation on cold pipes, which made it seem like a leak at first. Since you mentioned it gets cold at night in SoCal, that could be a factor, too. Just something else to consider while troubleshooting!

You should definitely check that putty seal! I had a similar leak that turned out to be from a faulty putty seal, and it was causing quite a mess in my garage. It might not look like a big deal at first, but it can really wreak havoc if left unchecked.
That's what I've been thinking too! I’ll push for them to look at it during the next visit.
