I'm trying to find creative ways to design a succulent garden that doesn't rely on lots of little pots. I love seeing others' succulent arrangements, but I want to grow a variety of them in the ground or in larger planters. So far, most of the designs I've found are either AI-generated, just overgrown patches of succulents like aeonium, or those big box store arrangements that aren't very sustainable. Are there any good ideas out there? What are the pros and cons of using pots for succulents, anyway? I live in zone 10b, so my succulents do really well here.

Check out Debra Lee Baldwin's site; she has a ton of ideas for succulent gardening! Pots are great because you can move them around easily, which is helpful if your climate isn't always perfect.
I've seen some awesome gardens with hen and chicks that really fill the space nicely! It's great that your climate allows for such diversity. Have you considered using some larger planters or even raised beds? It can help create a more garden-like feel rather than an arrangement of pots. Just make sure to separate them from other plants to avoid competition for nutrients!
That sounds similar to what I want! Did your grandma have a mix of other plants too, or was it just succulents?

Thanks for the tip! That site looks like it has exactly what I need.
