I've been a big fan of both Dewalt and Milwaukee tools for work, but I'm facing a dilemma. My Dewalt batteries are starting to fail, and I'm wondering if it would be smarter to let them die and gradually switch to Milwaukee for my tools (like lights, drills, circular saw, and oscillating tool), or should I just buy new batteries for the Dewalt tools I already own? I've been gradually getting into Milwaukee over the past few months but I'm unsure what to do next.

I started with Dewalt too, but I slowly shifted to Milwaukee—now I'm about 60/40 in favor of Milwaukee. Most of my Dewalt tools now serve as backup or shop tools, while my Milwaukee gear is my go-to on job sites. Don't overlook that FlexVolt circular saw; it's a beast! Honestly, if you see some Milwaukee tools on sale, it’s hard not to get addicted!
Thanks for the input!
If it were me, I'd go all in on Milwaukee. They typically build slightly better tools, and managing two battery systems can be a hassle. Plus, tools are cheaper than hiring someone to do the job, so investing in the right tools now can save you in the long run!
Exactly! If you think about the cost of hiring out jobs, getting the tools makes financial sense.
It really depends on the tools you need. For carpentry, Dewalt’s 60V and 20V models are great, while for trades like plumbing or electrical work, Milwaukee's M12 and M18 lines really shine. Both brands have decent options for outdoor power equipment, so you can’t really go wrong. Just pick based on what you’ll be using them for!
I'm mainly doing carpentry, so I keep thinking about getting new batteries for my Dewalts since I use them all the time.
This group isn’t going to give you an unbiased opinion, you know? Most of us prefer Milwaukee! But I’ve heard that the Dewalt circular saw is better than the M18 saw—just saying!
Mixing Milwaukee battery tools with Dewalt saws like miter and table saw seems like a solid combo, honestly.
Honestly, asking for an unbiased opinion about Milwaukee here is a bit ironic. This is the red tool fan club after all!
LOL I was kinda expecting at least one of these comments!
Yeah, it’s not that unbiased. A lot of folks here definitely have their favorites.
I’m in a similar boat with my Ryobi stuff failing. I’m debating whether to jump to Milwaukee’s M18 or just expand my M12 collection further.
You shouldn’t feel too bad moving away from Ryobi; it’s not a huge investment overall!

Same here! I find myself reaching for Milwaukee to make serious cash. If you’re patient with your purchases, you can score some really good deals!
