Hey everyone! So I just got an email saying I'm a third place winner in the Garden Tower contest, which gives me a $100 discount on the Garden Tower 2, originally priced at $379. I'm on the fence about spending $279 on it since it's still quite pricey for me. I'm in zone 6 in New England, which means our summers are long but our winters can get really cold, limiting our growing season.
I currently have four 17" metal raised beds for gardening (77 square feet total), and I've just started growing last year. I have a compost tumbler too, but it seems to take ages for my scraps to break down. I'm thinking of using the Garden Tower 2 primarily for strawberries, herbs, and lettuce. I love the idea of maximizing space, using it for composting, and possibly using worms for fertilizing my other beds. Plus, I'm super curious if it could let me grow greens and herbs indoors all year round.
I have a few questions:
1. Is anyone using their Garden Tower 2 indoors? Do you face issues with bugs or odors?
2. For those in colder climates, do you keep your Garden Tower 2 outside year-round? Have you had any problems with the plastic becoming brittle or fading due to UV or cold? Do your worms and perennial plants survive winter if the tower is outside? If not, what do you do with the worms when it gets cold?
3. Finally, how stable is the tower when it's filled up? Is there a risk of it tipping over? I have kids and pets, so I want to know if it poses any safety issues since it will be heavy with soil, plants, water, worms, and compost.

I wouldn’t worry about it being a scam; there are a ton of winners in these contests. Just a heads up, though, I personally wouldn’t spend more than $60 on this kind of gadget, even if it seems cool. $400 feels like a stretch! But you might find it useful if you’re into experimenting with gardening in tight spaces.
