I'm trying to figure out how to hang my 55" TV in my bedroom. The studs in the wall don't line up where I'd like to mount it. My mount has regular mounting points in each corner and also some extra points in the center. The problem is that the stud is right where I want to place the TV. I'm considering using the two center mounting holes into the stud and drywall anchors for the corners. Is this a secure way to do it?

A solid option would be to run two horizontal boards that reach each stud and mount the bracket to that. This way, the weight isn't just on one single screw, which could be risky.
The bolts that come with TV mounts are pretty durable. If you're just using the two in the stud, you might not even need the drywall anchors. Today’s TVs are lightweight, and they distribute weight pretty evenly on a stud. It's kind of like how a porch swing works, which is usually supported by two points on a joist, handling the weight of a few people without a hitch!
You could definitely use toggle bolts for extra support. The toggler brand is known to be really sturdy. I have an 80lb TV mounted with five of those toggles, and I even did a pull-up from the mount just to test it out before I secured the TV. They work great!
I usually fasten a piece of lumber across two studs or joists. This gives you a larger surface to work with. If it’s going to be visible, staining it makes it look nice!
That's totally fine! Using two lag bolts into a stud should support a 40lb TV easily, though toggles provide a bit more safety if you want extra peace of mind.
