Hey everyone! I'm new here and looking for some advice. I had a garage built with cinder blocks back in 2020, and it's got a cement beamed roof waterproofed with tarred sheets. Here in Paris, winters just drag on, and my garage doesn't have any insulation, leading to a lot of dampness. I was thinking of installing an extractor fan with 100mm pipes running around the ceiling to suck the air out, controlled by a humidity sensor and a smart plug. I know the ideal solution is to add insulation, but that's not in the budget right now. Any cheap ideas to help keep my garage dry?

If you have a water heater in your garage, you might consider a heat-pump water heater, which could work wonders in regulating humidity and temperature. Otherwise, focus on a good dehumidifier for the time being.
Insulation might not solve your humidity problem. Since there’s no heat source in your garage, you need to focus on removing the moisture instead. A dehumidifier is your best bet for now. I recommend getting one to deal with the dampness, while also looking into how moisture is entering your garage in the first place.
I totally agree! Some ventilation can also help reduce humidity levels, especially if you can let cooler outside air in to replace the damp air.
Yes, isolating the source of moisture is key. A dehumidifier should definitely help until you can tackle insulation.
I’m not familiar with the specifics of your setup, but I do know that garages without insulation can build up humidity. In my son's metal garage, I installed gable vents on both ends, which allowed for airflow and significantly reduced the dampness. You might want to consider some venting solutions too!
That sounds like a smart solution! Those heat-pump units can be efficient if you’re looking to tackle more than just humidity.
