We're preparing for a new baby and are converting our guest room into a nursery. The challenge is that this room is situated above our garage, making it quite hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. I'm thinking about installing closed cell foam insulation as a retrofit solution, but I'm unsure if it's really the best option and whether it's cost-effective. Are there better alternatives? Also, what can I expect in terms of costs for a room that's approximately 12x12 with attic access?

I think you're referring to Retrofoam, right? We had that done in a similar scenario, converting an old 3-season porch. It was definitely worth it! The floor is still cooler than the rest of the house, but it's a significant improvement. Insulating the ceiling made a huge difference since hot air rises. You should see better results overall!
