Why Does My Electrical Outlet Smell Like Refried Beans?

I've noticed that one of my electrical outlets smells really weird, almost like refried beans. Is this a common issue, or should I be worried? Am I overreacting?

If the plug feels a bit loose when you insert it, that could be the issue. Worn contacts inside the outlet can cause poor connections, leading to heat build-up and weird smells. You might want to replace the outlet.

Definitely not a normal smell! Have you plugged anything new into that outlet or noticed any sparking? If it's still working and didn't trip the breaker, that’s good, but you should still check it out. Smells like something's off!

That smell isn't normal at all! First things first, turn off the power to that outlet by flipping the breaker. If the lights share the same circuit, you may need to shut the whole room off. Once it's safe, remove the cover and inspect the inside for any signs of burning. If you don’t see anything obvious, use a tester to check the wires when you turn the power back on.
