My wife and I just bought a new home, and we're in the middle of a kitchen remodel. We've decided to switch to an induction stove since gas isn't very common here in Florida. After a lot of research, we've narrowed it down to either GE Cafe or Viking appliances. A local appliance store quoted us about $9,500 for the GE Cafe line and around $16,000 for the Viking line. The sales guy really thinks the Cafe line is the way to go, mentioning some issues with Viking lately. However, everything I've read online seems to favor Viking. I'm willing to spend a bit more for quality if it lasts longer. What do you all suggest?

Yeah, I agree. If a salesperson says you should spend less, they might genuinely be looking out for you—after all, that means less commission for them. I think Viking is way overpriced for what you get, especially since their refrigerators and dishwashers often have issues. Personally, I would definitely choose Cafe over Viking. They offer great features at a solid price point and seem reliable.
I’d recommend not sticking to just one brand for all your appliances. Different brands excel at different things. If matching is a concern, you could always panel your fridge and dishwasher to blend them in.
I’ve had some rough experiences with standard GE models, so I might be biased, but I really think it’s about quality for the price. Viking appliances feel like a luxury item to me—kind of like choosing between a Chevy Tahoe and a Cadillac Escalade. Both are good, but one feels prestigious.
