Why Can’t I Keep My Plants Alive?

I'm struggling with three indoor plants that are supposed to be easy to care for, but they just keep dying on me. My plants are rosemary, lavender, and succulents. The rosemary's leaves turn black and fall off, the lavender is super dry and appears dead, and the succulents look frozen before they end up rotting (I'm using self-draining pots to prevent overwatering). I generally do well with my other plants, so I'm at a loss here. Any tips on how I can avoid losing these ones?

For the succulents, 'frozen' leaves usually indicate they aren't getting enough light. Are you using grow lights or placing them by a sunny window? They need a good mix of well-draining soil too, preferably a combination of organic and inorganic materials like perlite and cactus mix. Also, remember to water them only when they're completely dry; they can go for weeks without it during their dormant phase!

I appreciate the tips! I have the soil mixed but might not have been mindful of their light needs. Thanks for the reminder!

Regarding your rosemary, black leaves typically mean you're overwatering it, which rosemary really doesn’t like. Make sure it’s in very well-draining soil, and try watering it less often—it's better for it to be a bit thirsty than too wet. This might help with that rotting issue causing the black leaves.
