Hey everyone! My grandma gave me her garden lot to take care of this year since she's getting older, and I'm super excited about it. However, there's a big problem: the area is filled with old, sun-dried tarps, and I'm finding microplastics all over the place. I'm planning to rake up the larger pieces and maybe flood the area with a hose to wash the smaller bits toward the grassy edges, but it's overwhelming! I could use some creative suggestions on how to tackle this issue. Thanks in advance!

If you want to get rid of microplastics, start by using your hands instead of tools. Tools can break the plastic down into smaller bits that are harder to pick up. Sift through the top couple of inches of soil if it’s really bad, and once you’ve removed what you can, flooding the area could help too! Good luck!
Honestly, microplastics are everywhere these days. Are you avoiding plastic in your life? Just focus on gardening and don’t stress too much about it. Enjoy the process!
That’s a tough situation! You might consider planting fava beans as cover crops since they can absorb microplastics through their roots in just a couple of days. This way, you could harvest them and help improve your soil at the same time!
