Hey everyone! I'm new to DIY woodworking and painting. I'm working on a bookcase made from 3/4 Birch, and I plan to prime and then paint it. The only problem is that I've used Zinnser primer before, and since my spray booth has poor lighting, it's tough to see the white primer against the birch wood. I want to paint it medium gray, so I'm wondering if I can get a gallon of primer tinted to make it easier to see while I'm spraying. Has anyone had experience with tinting primer? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Absolutely, you can definitely get primer tinted at any paint store, and I do it all the time! It's a great way to enhance visibility and make your job easier. Just bring in your primer and tell them to mix in some color for you!
Yes, you can tint your primer. Just a heads up, though, if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's, some employees might say you can't. If you're looking for gray, both Zinnser and Kilz offer a gray primer that could work well. But since I haven't specifically used it on wood, I'd recommend checking to make sure it's suitable.
I appreciate the tip! I'll make sure to double-check.

Thanks for the info! I found a lot of conflicting answers online.
