I'm looking for some advice on how to properly remove the trim piece that sits beneath my cabinets and just above my fridge. The trim makes the clearance just under 70 inches tall, which is a problem since most new refrigerators are about that height. I want to swap out my old Kitchen Aid fridge, but I think I'll need to take this trim piece off first. Here's a link to a picture for reference: [https://imgur.com/a/wt7keh9](https://imgur.com/a/wt7keh9). Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

From what I see, it looks like there could be screws hidden under some putty on the sides. I'd recommend digging it out to access the screws and back them out to loosen the trim. If it’s just a filler piece and not providing any real support, you can probably just get rid of it. That should give you the clearance you need!
I actually had a similar situation recently. You might want to take out the fridge first, so you can inspect the back of the trim piece. Mine had keyhole screws and required a bit of cutting. I used a straight edge for a clean cut with a circular saw and touched it up after. It'll make your job easier!
First, check if the trim is nailed or screwed from the sides or possibly the top. If you don't plan to reuse it, one method is to cut it in half, twist it to expose the nails, and then use a hacksaw or side cutters to remove them. Just a heads up, it might be glued along the top edge, which can complicate things! It looks like you're just trying to get extra space for your fridge, right?

Thanks! Yes - seems like most refrigerators these days that are 36" wide are also 70" tall.
