I had a strange incident with my bandsaw today. I had just finished making a cut and was getting ready for another one when suddenly the blade broke without me even cutting anything! I'm really puzzled about how this could happen. What could be the reasons for a bandsaw blade to break like that?

It sounds like there might be a few reasons for your blade breaking. Sometimes it could be due to imperfections in the blade, or it may be getting old. If you tighten it too much or if it gets overheated, that can also lead to breakage. Just keep an eye on how old your blades are and how much tension you're using!
For sure, an old blade or incorrect tension can really mess things up. If the weld on the blade popped or if it got kinked at some point, that could create a weak spot leading to a break. Have you changed the blade recently? You might also want to check if you're applying too much tension, though it's rare for a well-tensioned blade to break like that.
Could be a few things; like others said, check for any kinks or whether the weld was faulty when you inspect the blade. Also, if you're not checking for deflection that could mean you're running it too tight. It's unusual for a properly tensioned blade to snap like that, but it happens!

Yeah, I've had blades break on me too, and age definitely matters. Even if it's just a year old, heavy usage can wear it out faster.
