Should I Fire My Kitchen Contractor?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on my kitchen cabinet project. I got a quote for $3,000 from a contractor last month and was ready to go. I even sent him a document giving permission from my HOA to pull permits on March 7th. But I didn't hear back from him at all. When I followed up on March 12th, he claimed he never received the HOA document, which is why nothing happened. I resent it, but since then, I've only received radio silence and a couple of random photos of his permit and license number. Meanwhile, I got a more detailed quote from another cabinet manufacturer and I'm seriously considering going with them instead. Just to note, I never signed a contract with the first vendor. I'm now leaning towards telling the first contractor to take a hike. What do you all think? Also, is it common to get permits before signing a contract?

Honestly, I'd say dump the first contractor. They've gone quiet on you for weeks, and that’s a huge red flag. It seems like they don't value your business. Time to cut your losses and move on! ✌️?️

Exactly! My partner thinks the same. They said, 'If you’re feeling unsure, that says a lot. This guy isn’t respecting you.' I'd just let him go without further explanation.
