Should I Cut Out the Floor Under Cabinets When Building a Kitchen Peninsula?

I recently bought a house with existing floating vinyl flooring, and I'm planning to build a kitchen peninsula. I've come across a lot of advice suggesting that it's not good to install cabinets directly on floating floors, usually when the flooring is being laid down at the same time. However, since the flooring is already installed, I'm considering just cutting an expansion gap rather than removing all the flooring beneath the cabinets. This way, I think I could keep the flooring underneath, making it easier to maintain the right height for my new cabinets. Is there any reason I shouldn't go this route?

You might not need to cut out any flooring at all! Just place your cabinets directly on top of the existing floor. That could save you a lot of work. But do keep in mind that fixing anything to floating floors can limit their ability to expand, which might damage them later on.

Right, I've read about that too. If the floors don’t have room to expand, it could mess things up really bad!
