I'm looking to start composting in my apartment since I have some container veggies and this is my first time trying it. Is it possible to do this without using manure? What materials should I include in my compost to make it beneficial?

Composting indoors can be tricky! You might end up with fruit flies and unpleasant smells during the composting process, even if healthy compost shouldn't smell bad. But if you're set on composting, consider trying it on your balcony instead. You definitely don't need to use manure in your mix.
Vermicomposting could be a great option for you! You can use food scraps to create worm castings, which are nutrient-rich. There's also the bokashi method, but I don't know much about it. Just remember that for traditional composting, it's all about the balance of 'greens' (nitrogen) and 'browns' (carbon). You can totally manage without manure!
Yes, you can absolutely compost on your balcony! Just keep in mind that indoor composting isn't ideal due to potential pests and odors. Stick with outdoor methods for the best results.
