What’s the Best Way to Add a Door for Level Separation?

I'm looking to add a door to separate two levels in my home—ideally something like a pocket or sliding door that won't look too out of place. The goal is to create a private rental space on one level while living on the other. I need suggestions on a door solution that allows for easy movement and access, especially if someone comes through the door in the brown area of the image and wants to go upstairs or downstairs. I also plan to install a keypad lock for security. Any tips or ideas would be really appreciated!

One option could be to fully enclose the landing area. You could build a wall alongside the first set of stairs to create a more defined space. This way, you could even turn that area into a small pantry for added functionality!

So you'd suggest placing the door where I highlighted in red? What type of door do you think would work best, and how would it swing? The tricky part is finding something that can be kind of hidden or easily removable later. I thought about a pocket door, but I’m not sure how practical that would be.
