Hey everyone! I've been using Drano gel to clear up my shower drain, and it works great. However, I recently moved to a house with well water and found out that Drano might not be safe to use here. I'm looking for recommendations on drain cleaners that are safe for homes that use well water. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Honestly, it's best to avoid all chemical drain cleaners completely. They can be pretty harsh and there's usually no need for them. A good plunger can clear most clogs, and for tougher issues, a drain snake works wonders!
So glad you brought this up! Since septic systems rely on microbes for breaking down waste, chemicals can harm them. I use strainers at all my drains and clean them regularly. For cleaning, I've found that a homemade mix of 1 gallon of water, ¼ cup of white vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of Dawn works really well! If you have a lot of people in your home, make sure to pump your tank at least once a year!
Good point! If your septic system is well-maintained, you can actually go a lot longer than a year between pumpings.
It sounds like the well water itself isn't the problem, but you might be on a septic system too. Those toxic chemicals aren't great for septic systems. Just a heads up!

Absolutely! And if you're facing recurring clogs, it might be time to check how you're using the fixtures. Consider using hair catchers for drains and screens in the kitchen to prevent build-up.
