How to Cover a Speaking Tube Hole in the Wall?

My daughter has a speaking tube in her upstairs condo that goes from her place to her front door. I'm curious about what might have been used to cover the hole in the wall where the tube is installed. If anyone has pictures of what a speaking tube cover looks like, that would be super helpful!

You can definitely hang a picture in front of the speaking tube to cover it up! But I think I get what you're asking for—you're actually looking for a visual reference of what a speaking tube cover looks like, right? Here’s a link to an example I found. It's a whistle end piece that could inspire you: [Antique Bakelite Speaking Tube Ends](https://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-3139529/antique-bakelite-speaking-tube-ends-whistles.html). There are all kinds of covers, including some that can slide shut to block sound when needed! Check this out too: [Sliding Gate Style](https://www.friendsofdalnavert.ca/blog/2019/1/10/the-speaking-tube). Pretty neat, huh?

I’d suggest checking the hole around the speaking tube. If her concern is about people being able to hear her from outside, she might want to consider just putting a nice piece of art or a photo in front of it to cover it up. Something practical could be a hook for a jacket too. Just a thought!

Welcome to 1897! Just kidding, but honestly, if your daughter’s just looking for some privacy, tell her to stuff a sock in that hole and hang something over it, like a poster or a decorative hook. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it might keep noise down from outside.
