Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out if I need a permit for installing some solar panels I recently bought in California and Texas. I'm planning to have them installed on my rooftop, but they will be plugged directly into my home power stations instead of being wired into the main service panel. Do you think I still need a permit for this? I've heard that if they're not connected to the service panel, a permit might not be necessary, but I'm not certain. I'm looking for some advice from anyone who's gone through this process. Thanks!

Most likely, a permit is needed. However, every city and county has different regulations. If you live outside city limits, then those county rules apply. Just be cautious—if it’s visible and you don’t get a permit, your neighbors might raise complaints, and that could lead to bigger issues later on.
I'm applying for permits mainly for safety reasons and to protect myself. If something goes wrong, I’d rather not get blamed for a fire or face lawsuits. Plus, having everything in order can help when I sell my house later.
Yeah, you probably will need a permit for that since it’s on your roof, and don't forget about any HOA rules if you have one! It's always safer to check with your city requirements first.
