What Issues Could Arise from Draining a Concrete Backyard?

I'm switching my backyard from grass to concrete, and my contractor will be installing a drain pipe that goes under my front lawn. I'm worried this setup might lead to issues down the line since the drain can't go directly to the street. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Could it cause problems now or in the future?

Make sure to check where that drain pipe is sending the water. If it's heading off your property, you might run into some code issues. Better to figure this out now than face a headache later!

Your plan might lead to issues, especially depending on where you live. Many places have regulations on impermeable surfaces, like concrete, because they stop rainwater from soaking into the ground. This means that the storm sewer system has to handle all that extra water, which can overwhelm it and lead to major problems. Just curious, though—why are you going for concrete instead of keeping the grass?

We struggle to maintain the grass, plus our dogs keep digging it up!
