Am I in Trouble After Working with Asbestos Insulation?

Hey everyone,

So, I just had a ventilation system put in my attic, and the installers wouldn't do it unless I got rid of the glasswool insulation on the floor. The kicker is that I have an old asbestos roof and there's nothing protecting the attic from it. I was in a rush, a bit frustrated, and couldn't find a proper suit, so I just grabbed an FFP3 mask. Unfortunately, when I opened the packaging, I accidentally cut the mask without realizing it.

In my haste, I ended up removing about 200 m² of glasswool insulation, which was a sweaty and dusty mess. Now that I've showered, I'm freaking out a little because I noticed I had black particles in my nose afterwards. My mask was cut, and that really shocked me. I have this weird feeling in my lungs, but I keep telling myself it's not the asbestos since it takes decades to settle, right? It might just be the dust or the glasswool? I learned my lesson and won't be doing anything like this again, but honestly, I'm just trying to figure out how bad this might be for me.

Thanks for any insight!

You’re probably fine! The chances of you having significant exposure to asbestos are really low, especially if you just did this in a short burst. Construction dust can lead to some temporary symptoms like congestion, but just relax and let your body handle it.

Take a chill pill for a week—your body will clear out the dust naturally. It's repeated exposure that's the real issue. Just watch how you feel; you’ll likely be alright!

Thanks for the reassurance! I’ve read some scary stuff, and I’m trying not to freak out, especially since my girlfriend worries about health stuff.
