Hey everyone! I just bought my first house and there's a couple of electrical jobs I want to tackle—like moving a light switch and adding an outlet to the kitchen counter. I'm not really a DIY pro yet and I feel a bit nervous about dealing with electricity. Is moving a light switch straightforward enough for a novice, or should I definitely hire a licensed electrician for this? Also, can I just get a handyman to handle the move and patch things up afterwards?

It really depends on where you live. In many places, both moving a switch and adding an outlet require permits and licensed work. Often, electricians are hesitant to take on small jobs, so you might have trouble finding one for just this. Personally, I wouldn't risk it unless I’m completely sure I can handle it or have someone I trust. Better safe than sorry with electrical work!

I agree! Doing it yourself can be risky, especially if they find out later that it wasn't done by a pro. Just doing the work like this without permits could get both of you in trouble.
