I'm renovating my kitchen this fall and I adore the idea of wooden countertops. However, I have mixed feelings after reading various opinions on maintenance and practicality. How often do I need to oil them? Will the steam from my dishwasher cause damage? Has anyone who has installed wooden countertops regretted their choice? Any personal experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Wooden countertops can definitely be beautiful, but they do come with some maintenance. If you're not using them as a cutting board and ensuring not to leave water on them, they can last a long time. I know some people who have had wood counters for decades and they still look good with proper care. Just remember to oil them regularly and avoid placing hot pots directly on them!
Honestly, if you love the aesthetics of wood and don’t mind doing a bit of upkeep, go for it! Just be aware they’ll show wear and tear more than stone or solid surfaces. If you keep up with oiling and avoid direct heat or excessive moisture, you should be fine!
Exactly! My grandmother had a wooden counter that survived decades of use. It may not look perfect, but it’s functional and adds character. Just love it for what it is!
I had wooden countertops before, and while they do require more attention, I loved how they looked! Just keep in mind they can stain easily and you can't leave water sitting on them. I switched to granite eventually, which is much easier to maintain, but the nostalgia of the wood made it worth it at the time. You need to weigh that against daily use and how much maintenance you’re willing to commit to!

Totally agree! My butcher block has been treated well, and with just some regular oiling, it looks as good as new after four years. I handle it with care, and it’s been pretty low-maintenance for me.
