I'm considering painting my kitchen cabinets DIY-style this summer, but I'm a bit hesitant. I work as a nurse three days a week, so I've got some time to devote to this project. However, I'm wondering if this is a good idea or if I'd end up making a mess. I've heard that painted cabinets can chip easily. We plan on selling our house in about three years, so I want to ensure this project is worth the effort. Any thoughts?

Totally doable! I painted my kitchen cabinets in the past, and they turned out great. Just be sure to use specialty cabinet paint—it’s designed to be chip-resistant and durable, even though it might cost a bit more than regular wall paint. Also, keeping track of your cabinet doors during the process is key—label them to avoid confusion when it’s time to put everything back. Consider upgrading the hardware too; modern knobs and pulls can really elevate the look! Oh, and meal planning is wise, as cooking in a work zone can get tricky!

We used Sherwin Williams Urethane Emerald for ours, and 5 years later, it still looks fantastic! It's a bit pricey, but totally worth it; it doesn’t chip easily and is super washable.
