Hey all! I'm looking for some suggestions for plants I can use in my hanging baskets. I really wanted to get some lobelia, but it seems like it's a bit early in the season for that. Are there any seeds I can plant outside in my baskets at this time of year? Or any other plants you would recommend if I can't find lobelia? Also, does anyone know when stores typically start selling lobelia plants? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Right now, I've got pansies and violas in mine along with a little evergreen shrub—maybe euonymus? They're doing great! Just hang in there; lobelia will be available soon, but for now, you can't go wrong with these flowers.
It might still be a bit early for plants right now, so waiting a few weeks could be wise. However, there are plenty of seeds you can plant! Marigolds look really nice in hanging baskets and the blooms last quite a long time. I tried growing tuber begonias, and they worked really well—plus, you can forget to water them now and then, and they’ll still thrive. Oh, and you can save the tubers over winter for next year! Starting from seed is satisfying and much cheaper too.
Quick question—can I directly plant the begonia tubers into my hanging baskets, or do I need to start them indoors first?

My baskets are empty right now too. I checked the garden center today, but they didn't have any lobelias in stock either. I might give violas and pansies a try since they seem like a solid option!
