Hey everyone! I'm relatively new to gardening and have a couple of plants already, but I'm looking to add some greenery to my room. I have two cats, and I'm worried they might munch on the plants. Can anyone recommend some cat-safe plants? Any tips for keeping cats away from other plants would also be appreciated!

One great idea is to grow some cat grass or wheatgrass. I keep trays of it on the floor, and it really helps keep my cats away from other houseplants because they love nibbling on that instead!
Definitely check out the ASPCA's list of toxic and non-toxic plants. I always research specific plants before buying. To keep your cats from eating houseplants, consider moving them out of reach, especially the ones that could be harmful. Here’s a breakdown:
- **Highly toxic plants** you should avoid altogether are things like lilies and poinsettias.
- For **non-toxic plants**, keep them elevated so your cats don’t nibble on them. I have a snake plant that my cat used to chew on, but just raising it a couple of inches made all the difference!
Some safe plants to consider:
1. Orchids
2. Most cacti (just watch for the spines)
3. Many succulents (check individually for toxicity)
4. Peperomias
5. Spider plants
6. True ferns
7. Prayer plants
Just be cautious as some pets may still have reactions if they eat too much.

Same here! I put mine on the counter to make it seem off-limits. My cat only goes after my houseplants when he thinks I’m not watching!
