Best Ways to Set Up Blackout Blinds for Giant Windows

I've just moved into a new house and am loving the huge south-facing windows! However, as a paramedic who often works night shifts, I really need to keep the daylight out to sleep well and keep my room nice and cool. Does anyone have suggestions for installing very wide, total blackout blinds? The window measures around 4 meters by 1 meter.

Have you considered using regular blackout curtains? They can cover wider spans and still block out the light pretty effectively!

What about creating an insulated window quilt? They roll up nicely and can be hidden in a box above your window when not in use. If your window is super wide, you might want to add a divider in the middle. Also, think about the same kind of hardware used for old-school pull-down screens; it could inspire some cool DIY solutions!

For a window that large, custom options might be the best route. I recommend checking out shade stores where you can order shades tailored to your needs. You could even try making them yourself since the options are pretty flexible.
