This year, however, I decided to switch things up and planted native wildflowers instead of garlic. But to my surprise, I'm seeing a ton of garlic leaves popping up all over the place! It's hard to believe I missed harvesting so many cloves last year—there are almost as many shoots as I planted the previous year. What could be causing this?

Sometimes garlic cloves can split or you might miss a few scapes and they end up reproducing. I usually count my cloves and space them out evenly, but I still end up with rogue ones popping up every now and then!
It's totally possible that you missed a bunch of cloves when you harvested! Even just one clove can sprout into a whole new plant the next season. I've had similar experiences with potatoes when I didn't dig them all up; they just pop up again!
That's interesting! I thought I got every garlic clove I planted. But I guess it makes sense that some could still be in the ground. And potatoes? That's cool to know!
