Help! My Acer Tree is Crawling with Bugs – What Can I Do?

Asked By Gard3nWhiz92 On

I just noticed that my Acer tree is overrun with these small round bugs, and I'm desperate to know what they are and how I can save my tree. The pond right underneath the tree has fish, so I need to be cautious about what treatments I use. Any suggestions?

I've had luck using soapy water to deal with bugs on my Acers. Just spray it on and rinse it off after an hour to avoid leaf scorch. Just be cautious about timing—first or last thing in the day is best!

That’s interesting! I’ve heard these could be aphids, and ladybirds could help too. However, since you have fish in the pond, you'll need to be extra careful with treatments because I doubt koi would handle soap well.

A picture would definitely help figure out what you're dealing with! It seems like visual identification is key in this case.
