I've recently gotten into gardening, but I'm facing a big problem with mosquitoes! Every time I step into my garden during the evening or early morning, I get swarmed by these pests. My garden is set up for sunlight in the morning to the afternoon and then mostly shaded. How can I enjoy my space without being attacked by mosquitoes?

I've had success with permethrin-treated clothing! It could save you from constantly applying bug spray. I've tried a few brands like LL Bean's No Fly Zone, and they work well for me.
Keep an eye out for shaded areas where mosquitoes like to hide. I had a huge problem until I found they were nesting under some big leaves. Cutting those plants down solved my issue completely.
I have some shady spots too, but I can't afford to cut my plants. Do you have any other suggestions?
Honestly, mosquitoes can be relentless. To minimize their impact, apply bug spray with DEET before heading outside or use citronella torches if you can place them. If you have standing water, it's crucial to use mosquito dunks. If you can't remove the water, those are a must.
There’s no standing water around, but I’ll definitely try the bug spray. Any more tips you have would be awesome!
I found that using what some call 'Buckets of Doom!' really worked wonders for me. Just set up a standing water trap with some grass, let it sit for a couple of days, and then use mosquito dunk tablets to tackle the larvae. You just need to change it up every month!
Thanks for this tip! My garden is small, so I think one bucket should do the trick. If you have any more tips, I'm all ears!
We had a similar setup, and it helped. By the end of summer, the mosquitoes got bad, but using these buckets plus a bit of bug spray made a huge difference!
First off, clear away any areas where water might be standing still—this is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If that's not doable, consider using mesh covers over pools or adding larvicides. Also, ovitraps are effective—they trick mosquitoes into laying eggs in a trap. You can easily make one with a black sock and a plastic bottle!
Ovitraps sound interesting! I'll look into how to make one. Thanks!
It's pretty standard to deal with mosquitoes during those times! You can try dousing yourself in repellant, using a fan that creates wind over 5mph (they have a hard time flying in that), or sitting in a screened-off area if possible.
Fans seem doable! I'll look into that, though setting up screens isn't an option at my place.
Great idea! I’ll check those out. Have you found them more effective than regular bug sprays?
