What are some easy cat-friendly plants for a beginner?

I'm looking for some advice on plants that my sister can take care of and won't stress her out. She's been going through a tough time with depression and stress, and while she's trying to get into gardening, it's been a struggle. She had a rose bush that she accidentally drowned, and now she's worried about her money plant. I'm going to check on her plants this weekend, but I'm looking for suggestions on easy, cat-safe plants that can help boost her confidence and give her some hope. Any tips or recommendations?

How about a carnivorous plant? My cat doesn’t bother mine, plus they sit in water so there's no risk of overwatering. Just keep them out of direct sunlight. Alternatively, Tradescantias are pretty hardy too. They can handle a bit of neglect and grow quickly, but just a heads up—they can be mildly toxic to cats. Still, my cat’s had no issues with them!

That's a unique idea! Her windowsill gets plenty of light, so I think a carnivorous plant could be a fun choice.

It's great that you're helping your sister! For someone who tends to overwater, I’d recommend a well-draining soil mix with sand or perlite. It helps prevent root rot. For plants, consider a spider plant; they're super forgiving, won't mind a bit of neglect, and they're safe for cats. If she wants something colorful, a Chinese Evergreen is another good option—both beautiful and hardy! Watch out for snake plants, though; they’re toxic to cats!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I’ll make sure to look for those when I visit her.
